The new addition to the family arrived today..... why grumpy? I ain't allowed to touchy-feely until Christmas day.... the only concession is, my good lady has taken the manual out of the box so's I can look at it and really get my appetite whetted... and so for the FIRST TIME EVER, I'll have a new toy that I'll hopefully have some idea how to use! Normally it's rip open the box, blindly bash away at all the buttons, then refer to the manual when I'm disappointed with the results.....

I have a 500Gb external drive that is nearly full. Have to say it's got a load of junk on it but I was totally surprised by the amount of images I have stored. As I mentioned in another thread I was doing an upgrade to Windows 7. Instead of upgrading I decided to do a completely clean install. After I checked all was ok I installed Adobe Lightroom and decided to rebuild the catalogue from scratch. I asked Lightroom to import all the images on my external hard drive to it's catalague. So far it ...

Living near the sea means that the dominant bird species round here is gulls, they are everywhere and getting more aggressive. I watched them swarm a heron the other day and the poor bird was chased right off their patch. Down on the beach they will gang up on the crows who try and scavenge food but they spend half their time fighting off gulls. The gulls have taken to swooping on tourists trying to get them to drop their fish and chips. A couple of days ago I thought I saw a peregrine being ...

Today i found out something that shocked me and may well have deemed me to be a criminal. I was talking to a bird watcher down by my local river this afternoon as we were both looking for kingfishers. He said that i need to be careful with taking pictures because you are supposed to have a licence to photograph them near their nests!!!!!! I was very suspicious of this and when i got home decided to check the Natural England website. To my disbelief he was right.

As a Kingfisher is a Schedule ...

My favourite float of the night was this one depicting scenes from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. It was massive but the attention to detail was amazing

When I said massive I really meant it. This one was about the length of a two coach sprinter train. If you look at the image below this float stretches from behind the marshal in the foreground to the fourth one way in the distance. To enable control of the float as it manouvers around the streets of Weston and the other towns the marshalls ...

Thankfully it dried up last night and by the time the carnival started it was a clear night, mild and hardly any wind. So what's the carnival all about?

The Weston-Super-Mare November Carnival is the result of 12 months hard work, fundraising and no doubt some heartache by the many carnival clubs who annually enter the Somerset County Circuit.

Weston-Super-Mare being the last port of call of the circuit always results in a nail biting finish for the lucky winners along the way. This year ...

It's the carnival parade in Weston-super-Mare tomorrow night. Providing it's not raining I'll be out there with the camera. For an idea of what it's like have a look at this video on utube

Bridgewater Carnival

Couple of questions about photographing the floats.

Do you think I should change WB to incandescent

Shutter Priority rather than Aperture

Any other advice

A guy calls a company and orders their 5-day, 10 lb. weight loss program. The next day, there's a knock on the door and there stands before him a voluptuous, athletic, 19 year old babe with a sign around her neck.

Without a second thought, he takes off after her. A few miles later huffing and puffing, he finally gives up. The same girl shows up for the next four days ...

With the company's new Digital Negative specification and converter tool, users can translate and store raw files, which contain images prior to any in-camera processing, from more than 65 types of cameras. This process is different from ...
