PostSubject: Rock Concert   Fri Nov 06, 2009 3:38 pm

Hiya,

Am taking my daughter to her first rock concert on Monday (Muse at the SECC).... how uncool is that - going to your first gig with your mammy?

Anyway got me thinking about my first concert - Tears for Fears at the Glasgow Appollo in 1984 - and thought I'd like to know what everyone else's first was! (The friend who was taking us car broke down on the way there, and he had to phone his brother to come up and take us rest of the way to Glasgow.... luckily he had one of the very first mobile phones)

Confession time - what was your first gig?

Hope they'll let me in with my camera....

Angela

Long time ago 1970 - Argent at the Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare. Quite a few of us short haired RAF types stood out like sore thumbs amongst all the long haired rockers.....Those were the days

Sorry guys but by the time rock concerts were a 'thing' I had 4 babies to look after - so never been! However as my thing has always been jazz used to go to Humphrey Littleton's club, Ronnie Scott's, and one or two other jazz clubs (the names of which are only a distant memory) in Soho. Most were underground, down narrow stairs and full of jazz buffs - saw most of the 'famous' names at one time or another. Dave Brubeck, Tubby Hayes, Johnny Dankworth.

January 1973..... London Palladium, 'Slade' I was wearing a kingfisher blue satin jacket, black crushed velvet dungarees, 4" crepe sole platform boots, a black 'stovepipe' top hat...and 'glitter' eye make-up....... I was in the lower balcony, which was visibly moving up and down with everyone jumping up and down to 'Mama were all craZee now' It was a riot, the promoters were scared we were going to bring the house down... literally, and were appealing for calm... NO CHANCE! ;o)

and NO.... I'm NOT posting a pic!

PostSubject: Batley Variety Club   Sat Nov 07, 2009 9:11 am

Well I,m getting on a bit now, so I had to ask my "Other Half" about this,
she reckons we went to see Tom Jones at Batley Variety Club followed by Diana Ross and the Supremes.. must have been early 70,s sometime, by heck, I was a sweet, innnocent young thing in them days - where did it all go wrong.

Cheers
Tony.

That aging "Rock Chick" 'er indoors has been to see Bobby V (who?), Stones, Beatles, The Who, Freddie and the Dreamers, in such exotic places as Stockport and Great Yarmouth. She has also sat on the next table to Mick Jagger in a Chinese restaurant in Manchester.........
